Franklin Templeton Investments Acquires Majority Stake in Riva Financial Systems

Another acquisition that clearly shows the trend to solutions that are able to handle the complexity of multiple jurisdictions which are the prerequisite for global management.

It will be interesting to see how this transaction will influence potential clients to opt for RIVA as their new TA system now that it's being owned by an investment management organisation.

AIG Switzerland chooses Charles River for Compliance

This selection shows that Charles River can be used as a "compliance alone" tool and that this also is recognized by the market.

Unitech helped European Fund Services in building new IT architecture

This is a very interesting piece of information which highlights the history of the EFS acquisition by Société Générale in 2006 (see mergers & acquisitions consultant CIB Partners) and what has happened behind the scene. There is just one slight error: when SocGen took over EFS there was already a very powerful architecture in place in Luxembourg, which was one of the major reasons for the takeover (see also my other post here).

Roundtable On Transfer Agency Strategies in Europe - Update

This "Transfer Agency Roundtable" discussion (of June 2006) shows the strategies of Société Générale and BNP Paribas on TA (also including Citi, Axa, UBS and Titanium Capital) in Europe. Seems SocGen had found a satisfying solution in acquiring European Fund Services S.A. (a TA services provider and outsourcer, and a company I helped building from 2000-2004) in Luxembourg. In the meantime, EFS has migrated all Pioneer customers onto its platform (IGEFI MultiFonds Transfer Agency) and is currently planning to implement a new platform in the anglo-saxon market.

Hedge Fund Demand Feeds Advances in Accounting Software

Here is an overview of fund accounting systems that can handle hedge funds (it is a little outdated, since it was written in 2004). However, the list is not exhausting, since, for example, IGEFIs MultiFonds Fund Accounting system is missing, and it does have a hedge fund module that can handle the requried functionality.

Global portfolio systems market expanding

This article on "The Trade News" reports on the increasing market for global portfolio management systems, based on a report by the Aite Group.

I am very curious to see the German KAG (investment) market in the next years, in other words the buy side: will they continue to increase the STP rate, will they implement more portfolio and order management systems ? Time will tell...anyhow, the sell side is getting ready to connect, as this example shows: Fidessa and LatentZero combine execution management platforms.

Studie: Outsourcing Investmentkonten in Deutschland

Thomson acquires eXimius

Thomson continues its acquisition tour with eXimius, a Belgian front-end and mid-office wealth management software product that combines portfolio management and customer relationship management.

However, I believe this won't have any impact on the German market at all, since eXimius' footprint here was very small. This is likely to change with Thomsons financial marketing power...

Fondsdepot Bank nimmt neue Depotführungssoftware Diamos-D in Betrieb

I will be speaking at the "IT-Fondsprocessing" about the selection and migration of fund accounting systems (please find this presentation here).

In case you will attend, let me know so we can have a chat there...

Readers Choice: Best Portfolio Management System

Waters Online has again chosen Charles River Development as the best portfolio management system for the 3rd consecutive year.

TradeTech crowned it as "Best Buy Side Order Management System".

Temenos expands German footprint with acquisition of ACTIS.BSP

Temenos, vendor of a core banking system named T24, has bought ACTIS.BSP, vendor of an interesting reference data system (with a WM interface). Besides the fact that this will certainly strengthen Temenos presence in German in general, it will also have an impact on the market for reference data systems in Germany.

West LB AG Selects Asset Control for Global Data Management

With this deal, Asset Control seems to further reinforce their dominant position in the market for reference data systems in Germany. I am very interested to see if more KAGs (investment companies) in Germany will make the heavy investment for such a reference data system.

Fund Administration Survey: Pinpointing growth

Interesting to see where in this August 2007 survey (done by the "Funds Europe"magazine) third-party fund administrators anticipate growth - Germany is not exactly out of scope, but a runner-up: "Other markets that are picked as having exceptional growth potential are the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland, and to a lesser extent, Germany."

Another key finding is: "The increasing complexity of the products serviced leads to more complex IT requirements. The management and integration of increasingly sophisticated IT platforms is also mentioned by respondents as a key challenge for the industry. The investment required in IT is also an issue as it takes place against a backdrop of pressure on fees and demands for greater fee transparency." Well, that is, with all given respect, no surprise...

"Erste Bank Group" chooses Simcorp

Simcorp ist having a new client in Austria (Vienna): "Erste Bank Group", more concretely the "Erste Sparinvest", will be using Simcorp from front to back within the whole group, for both mutual and institutional funds. This is Simcorp's first customer in Austria to use it in both depository banking and fund management. Quite a success for Simcorp. Question is if this will be a signal for other major banks in Austria, who are currently investigating their future systems.

November ???

Victorian Funds Management Corporation chooses SimCorp Dimension

Seems that Simcorp is getting a foot in the door not only in the United States of America, but also in Australia with their 5th client there (article altered, see comment).
