Financial-i has identified the winners for 2006 in several categories, defined by an impressive number of analysts and consulters. Amongst the categories is "The most innovative fund administration and accounting solution". The winner is: SunGard, and they are referring to...InvestOne (not V3 or GP3)! You may want to have a look into my other post here (in German), where I have reflected on Sungards strategy in Germany.
Interesting sidemark: The company to watch was identified to be IGEFI. What does its CEO Bertil Rouveure focus on as the differentiation product feature is his note there ? "However, its outstanding feature is the ability to comprehensively service both mutual fund and hedge fund requirements. "
Other memorable awards are:
The most innovative order management solution: Charles River.f Company to watch: LatentZero
The most innovative securities services provider in Europe: BNP Paribas. Company to watch: RBC Dexia Investor Services
The most innovative reference data solution: Asset Control. Company to watch: Capco
You can find the awards in detail as a PDF here.

On investment banking and being serious
It's an absolute pleasure to wake up one day, open your inbox, and hey presto - you have an invitation to contribute to Ronald's financial blog. This is a very nice courtesy and an honour (both of which are not in the vocabulary of an investment banker). As an investment banker myself, I have been told by friends in other professional circles that the customary thing here would be to say something called "thank you", but once again, I am not familiar with the meaning of that term (although I have heard it used outside the office quite a lot - must be a fashion of some kind).
It is truly symptomatic of people in finance to be extremely good at what we do, and to follow good advice. Good advice for centuries has been that one should stick to one's knitting, so investment bankers stick to what they're good at, work, work and work. And voilá, you have the 100 hour week and the concept of the all nighter. In recognition of the fact that as an investment banker I have no intention of breaking with tradition, and continuing with what I am good at (work), I will be posting about work - the funny side of work - and hoping to make you, my fellow financiers laugh.
Enjoy the All Nighter and thank you for the opportunity to post!

Take A Closer Look At That Portfolio System Contract Before You Sign It...
Having the task to help a German investment company (KAG) selecting a new order management system, while doing some research I came across this article from QED, where they summed up nicely some issues to look at within the process - even though they are talking about portfolio management systems.

Sleeping on the MIFID watch
This is another alarming report, predominantly from the french point of view, here focussing on custodians: "There’s been some talking but I’m not really sure they’re doing anything about it". The word is spread on the situation everywhere, but why isn't (almost) anything happening ?

Link Lists for Investment Systems from Front- to Back-Office
I have compiled lists for fund accounting systems (see the surveys on the resepective topic, here from Barrington), transfer agency (see also the Barrington survey), compliance and order / portfolio management systems and added them as link lists on this blog (displayed on the right side). They will constantly be updated.
You may find other overviews on WallStreetAndTech (in English) and BankersPlus (in German, you might have to register first). Also interesting is the survey from Investment Advisor Association or the general surveys from Celent, or on specific issues on requirements for those systems at SourceMedia.
GCEY and KPMG also do surveys, but the the last publicly available survey on fund accounting systems I found is from 2004.

Bank Lounge: MiFID Online-Studie

COMIT acquired International Financial Business Solutions
The headline is: COMIT, a Swisscom Company, has acquired International Financial Business Solutions (IFBS AG), a leading Securities Finance and Collateral Management software application provider. This is one of several steps to come that Comit will do in order to follow their defined strategy: moving more into the corporate banking world. With the power of their stakeholder, the Swiss telco giant Swisscom, this should be rather easy. Just have to wait and see how this all fits together...
